Generally, QuickBooks allows you to modify almost all information on a posted Sales Receipt. However, there are specific restrictions if the receipt has already been included in a deposit.
Important Limitation: If the deposit associated with the receipt has already been reconciled, the total amount of the sales receipt cannot be changed,
If a sales receipt is part of a deposit and you need to change the donor information, follow this specific workflow:
Remove from Deposit:
Edit the deposit containing the receipt.
Uncheck the specific sales receipt.
Select Save and Close to update the deposit (Note: If a warning appears stating the deposit has been reconciled, you may ignore it).
Update the Receipt:
Edit the specific sales receipt.
Change the donor to the correct name.
Select Save and Close to update the receipt.
Edit the deposit again.
Check the box next to the updated sales receipt to re-include it.
Select Save and Close to update the deposit.
